The Department of Informatics and Telematics offers the possibility of PhD studies in the area of Informatics and Telematics. Around the middle of each academic semester, the Department issues PhD Calls (signed by the Postgraduate Studies Director), which are posted on the Departmetn website for at least 15 days. The scientific areas and specific objects of the calls are identified after suggestions of faculty members who are entitled to supervise PhS theses (assistant professors, associate professors and professors that have not completed the maximum allowed number of PhD candidates under their supervision), to the Director of Postgraduate Studies.
The PhD call must include the title, the scientific area and the description of the suggested PhD thesis, as well as the supervisor. Furthermore, it must include the typical requirements for registration and the required documents and the deadline for applications.
Candidates that are interested in a PhD thesis must submit an application to the Department Secretariat.
The application accompanied by the required documents and certificates is sumbitted to the Secretariat, who checks the completeness of the applications. The applications are the forwarded to the appropriate faculty members, given the scientific areas. With the supervisor's responsibility and the participation of two more faculty members, a recommendation report is drafted. The approval of the recommendation and the acceptance of the PhD candidate is validated by the Department Special Assembly, where it is also determined if the PhD candidate will be full-time or part-time.
