Dr. Emmanouil Krasanakis is a PostDoc Researcher at the Information Technologies Institute, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH-ITI). He holds a PhD degree in Computer Science from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2022) on the topic of algorithmic-aided software development in new domains, and a BSc degree from the same faculty. His main research interests include graph theory and graph neural networks, algebraic methods, machine learning with focus on algorithmic fairness and discrimination, and software engineering. Dr. Krasanakis has participated in a number of relevant H2020 projects, out of which he is currently serving as the technical lead of MAMMOth.

Ακολουθεί σύντομη περιγραφή

The adoption of artificial intelligence systems in most aspects of daily life has created concerns about their fairness. For example, it is known that machine learning models often reproduce or even amplify real-world biases, such as sexism and racism. In this workshop, we will discuss bias and fairness concerns, and how to transform many of them into quantitative criteria; this is the most important first step before applying bias mitigation algorithms. The workshop will include a hands-on section where analysis of example systems will be presented using Python and the FairBench library.
