
On Thursday 18/05/2017 Professor Artemis Chatzigeorgiou will give a lecture Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Thessaly, as part of the seminar of our Department's Master's Program.
The subject of the lecture is: ¨Machine learning for the functional characterization of human genes¨.
The lecture will take place in the auditorium of the building of the Department of Informatics and Telematics (Omirou 9, Tavros), at 6:30 p.m.
We would also like to remind you that the lecture is part of the Seminar and the attendance of postgraduate students is mandatory.

Artemis Chatzigeorgiou has completed undergraduate studies in computer science (University of Stuttgart) and graduate studies in molecular biology (University of Jena). From 2001-2007 she held a position as assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania (USA) in the Department of Genetics of the Medical School and an assistant professor position in the Department of Informatics in the School of Mechanical Engineering, which she remains affiliated with to this day (adjunct professor).
In 2007 she started her laboratory at the Biomedical Research Center "Alexander Fleming" (http://www.fleming.gr) as a researcher. In 2012 she was appointed Professor of Bioinformatics in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Telecommunications and Networks at the University of Thessaly.
Her scientific interests are systems computational biology, machine learning, pattern recognition, analysis of non-coding regions of the genome, and gene analysis in relation to diseases.
She has received the "Young Investigator Career Award" from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and her research works have been published in widely read journals such as Nature, Science, PNAS, Genome Research, etc. Her papers have more than 4,000 citations (ISI).
The gene data analysis tools implemented in her laboratory are available on the web node http://microrna.gr.
