Internship
The Internship as a Course
The Internship offered by the Department of Informatics and Telematics is an elective course in the 8th semester and corresponds to 10 ECTS credits.
It may be undertaken by students in the 8th semester or later and lasts two months on a full-time basis or four months on a part-time basis. The Internship takes place between April and September of each academic year. Students who are employed may participate in the Internship Programme. Those in full-time employment may undertake the Internship on a part-time basis.
The academic requirements that students must have fulfilled in order to participate in the Internship Programme are set out in the Department’s Internship Regulations and are updated or adjusted by decision of the Department Assembly at the beginning of each academic year.
Working students are also eligible to participate. In the case of full-time employment, the internship may be carried out on a part-time schedule.

A minimum monthly allowance is provided for the Internship, as determined by decision of the Ministry of Education. The Department’s Internship Programme is funded through the relevant Harokopio University project included in the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF). The University Internship Office is responsible for supervising internships at Harokopio University and for administering the relevant funding. Students may also participate in internship programmes funded by labour-market organisations. Students may participate in the Department’s Internship Programme only once, irrespective of whether it is funded through the NSRF or another source.
At a Department level, the Internship is coordinated by the Departmental Internship Secretariat.

Supervisory Committee
The Department’s three-member Internship Supervisory Committee comprises Professor Mara Nikolaidou, Assistant Professor Vasilis Efthymiou and Assistant Professor Eirini Liotou. Students may also contact Committee members directly regarding matters related to the Internship.
The Internship Programme of the Department of Informatics and Telematics involves recognised host organisations, primarily from the private sector, whose activities encompass contemporary fields of Informatics and focus on either productive or research-oriented work. In recent years, approximately 50% of participants each year have received an offer of employment from their host organisation upon completion of the Internship.
The principal objectives of the Internship are:
- To familiarise students with contemporary, real-world and cutting-edge challenges faced by Greek enterprises through the application of academic knowledge, particularly at a time of continuous change in the business environment and in business practices and processes.
- To establish links between students and the Department, on the one hand, and modern, dynamic enterprises, on the other, with a view to cooperation in employment, education and research.
