As part of the seminar of our Department's postgraduate program, on Thursday 09/05/2019 Mr. Angelos Charalambidis, a collaborating researcher at N.C.S.R. “Demokritos”, will give a lecture.
Dr. Angelos Charalambidis works as an associate researcher at NCSR “Demokritos”. Since 2007 he has participated in national and European research projects of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, NCSR “Demokritos”. He graduated from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the University of Athens, and holds a specialization in computer systems and a PhD in programming languages from the same department. His research interests revolve around programming languages, their mathematical foundations and their implementation.
The subject of the lecture is: “Data Streams: Programming in modern computing environments”.
A brief description follows:
Modern problems often require processing data at large scale and the use of specialized acceleration hardware. Such requirements can only be met in a distributed manner by the computational cloud, but exploiting the available resources is not straightforward. The use of an alternative computation model appears necessary. The talk will introduce data streams as an alternative computation model and will address contemporary problems in various research areas that use them, such as the processing of open data on the semantic web, the processing of sensitive data from robotic platforms, the processing of seismological and meteorological phenomena, satellite imagery, and the processing of genetic material.
The speaker will be introduced by Ms. Malvina Vamvakari, Associate Professor of the Department.
The lecture will take place in the amphitheater of the building of the Department of Informatics and Telematics (Omirou 9, Tavros), at 6:00 p.m.
We would also like to remind you that the lecture is part of the Seminar and attendance by postgraduate students is mandatory. Undergraduate students and doctoral candidates of our department, as well as other University staff, may attend the lectures.
We would be especially pleased by your presence.
Sincerely,
The Secretariat of the Postgraduate Programme
