As part of the Netpark project in which the Department of Informatics and Telematics of Harokopio University participates, we invite you to the presentation of the Netpark platform, which is a comprehensive on-street parking management system and will take place on 25/02/2021 at 15:00 via teleconference.
The Netpark system allows drivers to locate available parking spaces in real time and to be guided via the optimal route to the available space, which may be either near them or at a place of interest, and to pay through the app the applicable fees for exactly as long as their car is parked. Drivers also have the ability to visualize occupancy forecasts for the streets of interest over the desired time horizon. At the same time, municipalities and other roadside parking management entities and enforcement authorities can effectively monitor resident parking spaces and illegal parking while simultaneously having a real-time view of vacant and occupied spaces as well as whether the expected fee for the occupied spaces has been paid.
The solution consists of a mobile application for drivers (Android operating systems), a web application for system administrators (municipalities and other agencies managing on-street parking) and a mobile application for enforcement authorities (Android operating systems). The system is based on IoT technology with special sensors installed at locations that constitute controlled parking spots. The sensors allow the system's applications to receive real-time information about whether a parking space is occupied.
The expected benefits of the Netpark system are a reduction in the time spent on the road searching for parking spaces by drivers and, for municipal authorities, better utilization of space, reduced traffic load, increased municipal revenues, as well as a reduction in the cost of monitoring parking spaces through targeted surveillance.
